HelloTalk Backup Privacy Policy

HelloTalk Backup Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

HelloTalk Backup is Ray’s personal tool for backing up selected HelloTalk capture-folder files to Ray’s own Google Drive. This policy covers that backup tool and its Google Drive authorization; it does not cover the HelloTalk service or other tools used to process recordings.

Data accessed and purpose

The tool transfers local files chosen for backup, which may include recordings, transcripts, and related learning files. It uses Google Drive to store and retrieve those backups and to read the metadata needed to manage and verify them.

The Google Drive permission is limited to the specific files used with this app (drive.file). The tool does not request access to unrelated Drive files.

Storage and sharing

The backup tool runs locally. Backup files are stored in the Google Drive account selected during authorization and remain subject to that account’s sharing settings. The tool does not automatically publish or share backups with other people.

OAuth authorization tokens are stored locally in an encrypted rclone configuration. They allow the tool to access the selected Drive account without storing the account’s Google password.

The backup tool does not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or transfer it to a separate hosted service operated by this project. Google processes the stored files according to its own policies and the account’s settings.

HelloTalk Backup’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Retention and control

Backups remain in the selected Google Drive account until its owner removes them or changes the configured backup policy. The owner can delete backups in Drive, stop local backup jobs, and revoke the app’s authorization through Google Account connections.

Revoking authorization stops future Drive access; it does not automatically delete existing backup files or local source files.
